Day 9: Sunday, 1/3/10: Move to Camp 1

Today was a big day for us as we would be leaving the comforts of basecamp. We slept in and treated ourselves to a nice breakfast of pancakes, cereal, and bread from Grajales. We confirmed our radio communication with base camp, made a final gear check, and set off for the high camps. We were both quite anxious, because for us this felt like the true beginning of our adventure. We departed Base Camp around 9:40 AM. We took it nice and easy up to Camp 1. This was the first time on our trip that we knew what to expect and it was nice to have previous knowledge of the route in our heads. We made it to Camp 1 around 14:10 feeling much better than our previous visit. We sorted some gear and took it easy for the rest of the day. From this point on, we would be checking with Grajales at Base Camp for weather forecasts in the upcoming week. Notably, we were trying to avoid the high winds for our summit day as best possible.
